Sustainability

NS wants to lead in sustainable mobility. Our suppliers help us to make rail transport more attractive, cleaner and more sustainable.

Solutions

Our suppliers play an essential role in making our services and products more sustainable. Consequently, we like to collaborate closely with our suppliers and challenge them to put forward innovative and sustainable solutions. <!–A summary of the sectors in which we are active can be found here.

Circularity

For NS, circularity means using less raw materials and making the best possible use of our own materials. Our goal is to purchase circularly by 2030, to (re)use our materials as much as possible and to have zero waste in offices, workplaces and trains.

NS uses the Circular Transition Indicators (CTI) framework developed by WBCSD (World Business Council for Sustainable Development). Based on CTI, NS reports the results on inflow and outflow and gain insights to improve the performance on circularity within NS. Please find more information here.

To gain insights of the products delivered to NS, we have developed an inflow report. Suppliers who deliver products to NS are expected every quarter to send the inflow information to the following e-mail address inflowrapportage@ns.nl.

If your company also picks up (used) products at NS then the outflow report should also be send to outflowrapportage@ns.nl every quarter.

Please find the Inflow template here.

You receive concrete recommendations based on that result so that you can make improvements in the area of sustainability wherever necessary.  More information about EcoVadis and the assessment is available here. More information about the EcoVadis assessment in relation to criteria for suppliers is available here.

Railsponsible

Railsponsible is the name for a sustainable procurement collaboration which NS has initiated together with the following partners in the European rail sector: Alstom, Bombardier, Deutsche Bahn, Knorr Bremse and SNCF.

The choice of the EcoVadis method as the standard for uniformly identifying, communicating and, where possible, improving supplier sustainability performance is one of the elements of this collaboration. More information about Railsponsible is available here.

NS Suppliers’ Code of Conduct
